How old is Westboro Beach?
Westboro Beach was first recognized as a swimming site in 1910, when the Clarella subdivision plan set aside three parcels for public swimming. Before that, Skead's Mills operated on the riverbank from 1869 until it burned in the 1880s.
As of · Updated
In 1926 the Westboro Board of Trade backed swimming there while the land was still privately owned. Volunteers working with the NCC have mapped remains of the main mill building's foundation near the shoreline. The NCC reopened the beach on June 1, 2025 after a $21 million redevelopment.
